I cautiously first went to peer "My Cousin Vinny" when Marisa Tomei won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, because--unlike many people--I don't like Joe Pesci. I level-headed don't like Joe Pesci, BUT the role of Vincent LaGuardia Gambini in "My Cousin Vinny" is perfect for him, and his performance is stellar. For me Joe Pesci is Vincent Gambini and Vincent Gambini is Joe Pesci. And, it was my thought when I first saw "My Cousin Vinny," as it is now after watching the DVD I objective got, that Marisa Tomei more than deserved the Oscar. It is my view, moreover, that many times award winning performances are discredited by viewers because the actor is performing so well that it appears they are not acting at all. (Please price that I count myself among those who discover the Oscars as politically driven; so, when I agree with them--which is seldom--I am truly standing up to be counted) .

The product description does a heavenly job of describing the anecdote outline; although it hardly makes "My Cousin Vinny" sound nearly as comical as it is. But the movie is about more than two kids from the city mistakenly arrested for abolish in (the implicitly implied "redneck") Alabama. The film is a light-hearted gawk of culture clashes, where all characters have stereotypical traits and stereotype the other characters themselves. Pesci's character finally "gets it," and is able to earn his way; but only through the assistance of Tomei's character and the trust of Billy Gambini (inconsistently performed by Ralph Macchio) .

As for the other reviewer's triad about the language in this DVD version of the movie, as compared to the bleeped television version, I have these comments: 1) the movie is rated "R," which should have informed you about the probability of profanity; 2) while it may seem like there is a lot of profanity in the movie, it is completely applicable to the diagram these characters would actually speak--and I suspect that there is actually less profanity than it sounds like; 3) when "My Cousin Vinny" was made (1992), most movies were intelligent towards increased spend of profanity--especially "R" rated movies; and 4) is overt profanity that great worse than suggested or ribald "comedy? " Moreover, objective how does the sudden inclusion of (generally appropriately musty) profanity into any dialog--films or otherwise--change the humor or create it no longer droll? In fact, I personally hear unbiased as noteworthy, if not more, profanity weak by children, teenagers, adults, and seniors at the store than in the movie; which I acquire is inappropriate misuse of profanity, but is the map of life today. For me, and I am positive many others, a tall silly movie, is a enormous comic movie in spite of the language. Remember, there was a day when movies couldn't even rely on language to be comic.

Now for the mystery I am having peril understanding: Why is this version of the DVD/VHS not being lumped together with the other versions with regards to reviews? To date (12 June 2008), there is only one review listed for this version, while there are 129 reviews for the other version currently available. This is so uncharacteristic of Amazon! And, in approach ultimate irony, it appears that there is no incompatibility between this version and the other "lower priced" (I got mine when it was sale) version, other than the fact that this version has a gold cardboard slipcase (the box inside is exactly like the other one) and the listing has the bad actors!

When Unusual Yorkers Billy Gambini (played by Ralph Macchio) and Stan Rothenstein (Mitchell Whitfield) are wrongly accused of kill in Beechum County, Alabama, they call in a lawyer they know - Vincent "Vinny" Gambini (Joe Pesci) . Well, I must admit that this is one of my all-time popular movies. On the down-side, and it is a astronomical down-side, the swearing in this movie is strong and almost non-stop, with the f-bomb being thrown around like confetti on Current Year's Eve. But, in spite of this, the movie is so well-made that you can't encourage but like it.

Joe Pesci is substantial, of course, but the rest of the cast carries their believe weight, making ever scene in the movie really work. Marisa Tomei does an grand job as Vinny's fiancé Ms. Mona Lisa Vito, and Fred Gwynne brings in a stellar performance in his last major role - Reflect Chamberlain Haller. Plus, I found the storyline to be non-stop humorous, and the mystery to be quite intriguing.

Yep, this is one of my celebrated movies, and I judge it will be adored by audiences for many years to advance. With the movie's language it's not for children, but it definitely is for everyone else!

It went straight to video, apparently because of difficulty with the company that owned the distribution rights, but if "Wild Hogs" made money, this shouldn't have had any pain.

The region involves two museum security guards who've fallen in worship with two paintings, and a third guard who has . . . some other relationship with a statue, destined to be sold to another museum and replaced by noble horrific novel art repellent to the guys, namely Christopher Walken, Morgan Freeman and William Macy. By the title you can express what their solution is, so I need say no more about that.

The tone is light, comedic, but there are no exact out-loud laughs, despite best efforts. Obviously the acting is very fine, the chemistry works, but there are very great holes in reason and well-liked sense. That shouldn't bother you if you don't examine too noteworthy out of the movie, but it's might be rather annoying at times to some. Smooth, overall it worked reasonably well, too unpleasant it didn't pick up a chance at the mall.

The fable is ludicrous in itself, water has become more necessary than gold or silver. I always found it humorous that these people have the ability of interstellar disappear but they can't earn water. If you catch high school fondly, you were probably one of the current kids. The "Heathers" are perfectly, flawless cast, as is every one from the weary indispensable to Veronica's vacuous parents. As for direction, Michael Lehmann moves the film at a hastily clip, hitting more high points than you can imagine. Indeed, everything about the film is qualified.

The DVD package is very nice, including an moving audio commentary, an inviting documentary featuring interviews with director, writer, and major cast members (Kim Walker, who died in 2001, sadly excepted), and a script of the ending as originally planned by writer Waters. I recommend the film as a "must have"--but a word of warning. If you were one of the very favorite during your high school years, you won't fetch it in the least toothsome. I adore Anne of Green Gables. I've read every book written by L.M. Montgomery, practically every book about L.M. Montgomery and I've seen a number of adaptations of Anne in various forms from plays to movies. This movie has nothing to do with Anne of Green Gables or L.M. Montgomery. When are the producers going to end trying to shoehorn their enjoy ideas for characters and place into the Green Gables name. This isn't a wicked movie but it isn't Anne of Green Gables. Anne is an orphan that is at the very foundation of who she is as a character. Anne Shirley develops her imagination to deal with the often harsh conditions she has had to endure and she learns to thrive when she is placed in a loving environment. This movie dismisses all of that and creates something that is contrary to the spirit of Anne of Green Gables. A heed to the producers, I'm not positive if you know this but L.M. Montgomery wrote a total of 8 books related directly to Anne and they were all successes and beautifully written books with endearing characters and captivating, heart felt plots, you should have obsolete her works to effect your films. You certainly didn't improve upon them. Rachel Lynde would definitely not approve.

I gave this a chance, and by that I mean I watched it before writing this review. For the narrate, I loved the first two Sullivan Anne adaptations. The first installment was truly magical and I return to it frequently; the beginning strain of music is always enough to invent me smile. The second installment (The Sequel) wasn't quite as factual to the books given the engaging task of condensing "Anne of Avonlea", "Anne of the Islands" and "Anne of Windy Poplars" into one film (the last a charming but largely uneventful series of letters from Anne to Gil in the three years between their engagement and marriage), but I assume it a edifying adaptation in that it retains the mood, magic, and characterizations of the first film and source material (though I did miss seeing Anne and Gil in college, the ensuing drama with Roy and Christine, Patty's State, and all the additional very memorable characters) . To be delicate, it would have to be a television series to remain entirely honest to the books.

With regard to this fourth installment...first of all, whose shiny notion was it to ruin off Gilbert Blythe?! That's fair Injurious. That being said, there's nothing particularly bad about this film (ample scenery, solid acting), though the memoir is convoluted and jumps around a bit noteworthy for my taste...so long as you can win over the glaring omission of the title character herself. I don't blame Sullivan for wanting to return to magical Avonlea, but he really should've changed the names and called the film something else entirely. Even "The Continuing Yarn" (Allotment 3) was tolerable and that was only because Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie returned as Anne and Gil (their reunion scene in war-torn Europe was nearly enough to get me forgive the film's deviation from the books) . If they wanted to continue the thread from Allotment 3, they would've been better off with a loose adaptation of "Rilla of Ingleside", the final book of the Anne stories which focuses on her children.

My single biggest dilemma with this myth is that it re-writes history: Anne Shirley is an ORPHAN, it's a fact that shapes her indelibly. Her parents died of fever when she was a baby and she later revisits their outmoded home (in Anne of the Islands) . Anne has no memory of her parents though she loves them dearly and subsequently names two of her children after them (Walther Cuthbert and Bertha Marilla Blythe if memory serves) . She does not, as this film suggests, construct up the legend that she is an orphan (Walter Shirley did not indirectly end his wife in a wagon accident and become a guilt-ridden absentee father) . Anne was imaginative, yes, but she was not a liar. It's also out of character and very difficult to own that Marilla Cuthbert would ever cloak Walter Shirley's letters from Anne. As it is, this installment is Anne fan fiction minus Anne and minus the magic. Perhaps someone with lesser attachment to L.M. Montgomery's Anne Shirley Blythe can delight in "A Modern Beginning". Unfortunately, I could not.

I have seen all the Peanuts movies, and this is the Peanuts movie that really makes me shout no matter how many years I have been watching it for (since around 1979 or so, when I was 5 or 6) . It deals with the fact that Snoopy has gotten a letter from his obsolete owner, a petite girl named Lila. She is sick in the hospital and asks him to advance scrutinize her (how did she come by Charlie's addresss? Maybe the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm kept the Brown's address, and she asked them for it) . The best piece of Grave Secrets aside from the fact that it was based on a lawful narrative is Patty Duke who always gives us extraordinary performances. This is also called The Legacy of Hilltop Drive. You can probably glean more information on the internet about what happened to Ben and Jean Williams and the rest of their family. The home they moved into was built on an ancient cemetary called The Gloomy Hope and supposedly the deceased began to haunt the residents in the neighborhood in queer ways. Toilets would flush on their have, the garage door opened and closed by itself, it was icy a lot of the time, there were unexplained shadows on the wall, etc. The Williams tried to steal correct action againgst the developers but with no luck. They eventually moved out after a family tragedy. If you relish the occasional TV-movie, this is a safe one. Don't question esteem special effects or high production values like you would in great Hollywood films. But this is peaceful a wonderful movie to seek on a Sunday afternoon. Some other ghost movies you may indulge in with better budgets are Burnt Offerings, The Changeling or The Others with Nicole Kidman.

I know Patty Duke was in lots of films between The Patty Duke Explain and this movie, most notably as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, but I couldn't resist going benefit in time. Grave Secrets is based on a good event where the spirits of those buried advance to haunt the houses on Hilltop Drive whose owners don't realize there is a cemetery under their houses. Patty plays a wife and mother who takes charge of her granddaughter while her daughter is away. moral after piquant in, Patty hears the sound of a toilet flushing, only there is no one there to flush it. Later, her granddaughter sees shadows on the wall no one else sees. As in any haunted-house movie, things do up until the climax and the secret of Hilltop Drive is revealed. While other movies were better, such as The Haunting and The Sage of Hell House, it is neverthless unnerving in fragment because this one is sincere, and in section because of the acting and special effects. I have it on a video along with Ghost Fable, Poltergeist, The Timid (not The Haunting, but based on fact) and The Uninvited (also based on fact) . You can contemplate I like haunted-house movies, and Grave Secrets is a satisfying waste to the tape. Not top quality, but aloof excellent.

I wasn't born when Emmett Till was murdered, yet this narrative has always timid me. Watching this PBS documentary impartial mesmerized me. I don't understand this kind of disapprove, that grown men would trot a young boy from his bed and literally beat him to death. And how a fair system or the community could serve the white men because they were white and the victim was shadowy. One peep said he heard "beating" and the boy "screaming." I score goose bumps when I believe of that... This movie is not for the squeamish, because it deals with the facts without sugarcoating them. I could witness it because I know it really happened. Turning away and burying my head in the sand because its too heinous to collect is why slavery and the brutal treatment of blacks in the long history of this country lasted so long. God-fearing people have got to face history, learn from it, and screech never to allow the poor parts of it to be repeated... Watching this movie with an originate heart and mind will convict you to that raze.

I have a sort of love/hate relationship with these films. As a tried-and-true fan of the TV series, I always feel a petite bit like they're "not the precise thing", honest "trying to manufacture some cash" - a fairly accepted attitude for a fan. And that's exactly why they were made...but really, don't they deserve a dwelling in Doctor Who history, too?

The first film is admittedly one I have never been enamoured of. It's very, very sixties - the pink plastic location, the Thals' makeup, the wild Dalek colour schemes, and the corny humour all contribute to a positive feeling of kitsch. I have to be in a very definite frame of mind to savor it. The second film is, in my belief, mighty more fascinating. There's trusty tension and panic in the situations presented, and it compacts the memoir nicely from the TV serial's 150 minutes to the film's 84. Both the Daleks' colour schemes and Cushing's performance are more subdued, and the flying saucer is very icy. I'd noteworthy rather perceive this than the TV version, 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth'.

Both movies are presented anamorphically in their current aspect ratio of 2.35:1 - a genuine revelation to me, as I expected the ancient 1.85:1 or even 1.66:1. The transfers are honest radiant, boasting a remarkably sure report and strong, vibrant colours, including very factual blacks. If you've only seen the films on pan 'n' scan video, you objective haven't seen them! There is some grain evident in the narrate - more noticeably in "Daleks - Invasion Earth", thanks to the extensive outdoor scenes - and the occasional smart suggestion of edge enhancement, but the films really search for astounding for 35-year-old pictures. I don't know who remastered them, but clearly work has been done. Very nice indeed. Unfortunately, I can't give a completely orderly bill of health to the films. Regrettably, Anchor Bay was provided with the wicked edit of "Daleks - Invasion Earth". This causes the film to launch with the title sequence, followed by the pre-credits robbery scene. It's terribly positive, since the scene ends with a musical cue leading into the titles, and you can't even moral it with the memory function on your player (although the titles and robbery are different chapters, each ends with the fade-up from gloomy to the next scene) . I fervently hope Anchor Bay takes action to re-release the film in its pleasant design.

Both discs include a nice smattering of extras, including their new trailers, a "History of Doctor Who" text essay, extensive photo gallieries, and an in-depth biography of star Peter Cushing. "Dr. Who and the Daleks" also includes a commentary with actresses Jennie Linden (Barbara) and Roberta Tovey (Susan), monitored by journalist and Cushing film historian Jonathan Sothcott. The creep of the commentary is slack - perhaps too slow - and the discussion is often very generalised and anecdotal. It's a fun commentary, yes, but nowhere as profitable as those on the BBC's "Doctor Who" discs. Win it for what it's worth, delight in 83 minutes with some very beneficial people, and then realise you'll probably never determine the 'Commentary' option again.

The third disc contains the 1995 documentary "Dalekmania". Containing interviews with many of the actors and actresses interested, as well as Dalek creator Terry Nation, stuntman Eddie Powell, and others, the 57-minute film is a fantastic companion to the two Dalek pictures, and very mighty in the vein of Kevin Davies' other, better-known Doctor Who documentary, "More Than 30 Years in the TARDIS". Pleasantly, he transfer for "Dalekmania" is equal to that of the two films, with a shimmering, sparkling describe marred only by a bit of grain. It's really nice to leer it treated as well as the main attractions, as I had imagined a more VHS-quality print.

Overall, this 3-DVD station went far and beyond my expectations. The only thing that could get it better, in my idea, is if Anchor Bay issued a corrected version of "Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.", and replaced those discs already purchased. I highly recommend the residence or the individual discs to any fan of the Dalek movies, as well as "Doctor Who" fans who haven't yet tried the films - this is definitely the plot to examine them! Maybe DVD release will finally bring Peter Cushing's portrayal of the Doctor, and the Dalek films as a whole, the respect they deserve.

I give this package a 5 star rating, although I could suggest a couple of improvements.

Of course the movies were made in the mid 1960s and they are as they are. The represent quality on these DVDs is estimable. The colours are smart, although the sets in the first one unruffled search for studioish - albeit more solid and expensive than the TV sets.

I mediate Peter Cushing makes a spacious Doctor and there are plenty of Daleks of various shades, though now, more than 35 years on, I don't accumulate the Daleks as scarey as I did when I was eight years venerable.

The third disc, Dalekmania, is a documentary from 1995. This is the position where improvements could be made. It would be beneficial if there had been some coverage of the TV series and an exploration of the anatomy of a Dalek. While the interviews are enchanting, there are a lot of clips taken from the two movies, which are already included in the status.

My biggest complaint - The amazing 'Dr. Who' theme tune and the very wierd noises of the TV series are not here.

This being a Lucio Fulci movie, i obviously expected to eye a ton of graphic violence and i did, but he didn't offer unbiased some chilly bloody western with this film. Actually it was powerful more than honest that. The film was brutal, it was shadowy, it was sparkling. It had some many wonderful moments all throughout it and the come by was shiny and completely space the tone for the film. This was a very emotional narrate and it seems to be a really personal from Fulci. It really had some moments that were truly heart breaking, these characters were totally likable. And to eye what the characters went through, you really felt awful. I contemplate that this film could definitely go as far as being one of the greatest spaghetti westerns that i'd ever seen. And that comes from a ample genre with a ton of spacious pictures under it's belt. If you're a fan of Fulci's but have not seen this you'll most likely be very pleasantly surprised as i was. Two thumbs up!

Owing to the fact that i am a substantial Fulci fan i was very inflamed about seeing Four of the apocalypse. I have enjoyed a wide spectrum of his movies including the beyond, conquest, house by the cemetary, city of the living listless, recent york ripper, contraband, lizard in a womans skin, dont torture a duckling etc etc.

Unfortunately with four of the apocalypse,i was very disappointed. The acting is obliging and im a fan of Fabio Testi but the prance is unimaginative and plodding, the soundtrack poor and there is very shrimp of Fulcis signature violence to exclaim of!

Worth a leer but for Fulci completists only, I would certainly recommend renting this first before you acquire it!

Wrong. How very gross. This film is respectable, even though it had the potential of being very dreadful.

One, the performers do a nice job because if they were terrible, the movie would've been. Two, no one takes themselves or the film seriously-that essential. The film is quirky and the director does nothing to camouflage that. Three, and this helps, there is no memorable unpleasant language and nudity. Strangely enough this film carries itself-there's a state which is followed logically to a conclusion.

The ubiquitous Seth Rogen stars in yet another comedy, which is splendid with me. Unlike a lot of comedies, this one actually delivers laughs. It's not hysterically humorous, and there was less comedy than I would like. But, at least there were some humorous bits. "Pineapple Disclose" suffers the same flaw as most comedies, in that it's too long. (I didn't behold the longer director's sever version, opting instead for the theatrical version.) 90 minutes is the magic number for a comedy; you had better have a beneficial excuse for going over. This film did not. Chopping about 20 minutes out of this would have improved it immensely.

Seth Rogen plays himself, as always, and he's beneficial at it. James Franco was astonishing, and his Golden Globe nomination was well-deserved. Ed Begley, Jr. got to play a character out of his normal range, and was really the comedic star of this film in the few scenes he was in.

As my wife perceptively well-known, we were not the target demographic for this movie. I suspect a younger group would savor it more. Nonetheless, it's a least worth a rent, particularly if you don't go into it with high expectations.

I deem some reviewer's miss the point. The writer, director, etc. did everything with this movie that they intented to. They wanted to gain a humorous movie obviously, but they also wanted to invent a point. Seth Rogen's character say's it best when Franco's character is offering him a hit and he doesn't want it, that they are not very functional when they are high and that's why they have got into so great grief. The movie is laughable, so laughable I actually made myself sick to my stomach from laughing so hard.

James Franco has played his best portion ever in my thought, the sweet, sometimes a shrimp clueless Saul. Then, sometimes he pulls it all together and you search for a flash of the person through the haze of smoke. Endearing to the last line with a astronomical smile.You assume he has no thought of what Seth Rogen's character think's about him and then at one point he pull's out a list of everything Seth's character has said and not said, proving he's smarter than he appear's.

Seth Rogen stands out here as well, helped along by sizable lines and satiric wit. Don't even win me started on Red. He's like a cockroach, he can't be killed.

My celebrated scene would have to be when they are in the wood's and freaking out over the forest creature's they mediate are waiting to regain them. It was so hilarious I cried from laughing. But, I won't spoil it.

Best comedy I've seen in years. Recommended.

This is a terrific, veteran fashioned, madcap, screwball comedy. Deftly directed by Howard Hawkes, the travel is frenetic from the get-go and never lets up. Starring Cary Grant, as a straight-laced paleontologist, and Katherine Hepburn, as an impulsive and blooming heiress, this film is simply about as obedient as comedy gets.

The position itself is simple. David Huxley (Cary Grant), a renowned paleontologist, is trying to salvage a philanthropical grant of money for his museum from a wealthy donor. In his quest for this charitable gift, he runs into Susan (Katherine Hepburn), who, unbeknownst to him, is the niece and prospective heiress to his potential philanthropist's fortune. Once David meets up with this madcap heiress, his life will never be the same.

The film is renowned for its highly amazing situations, its rat-a-tat-tat, stacatto delivery of lines, its frenetic pacing, and impeccable comedic timing. Cary Grant is edifying as David Huxley, the straight-laced, befuddled man of science who is drawn into fabulous situations by Susan. Katherine Hepburn is sensational as Susan, the airhead heiress whose hair-brained ideas unbiased lead to grief. Of course, Susan falls for David, and the games initiate. In addition to Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn, the film has considerable performances by Charles Ruggles, as spacious game hunter Major Applegate, Barry Fitzgerald as the hapless hired hand, Mr. Gogarty, and Walter Catlett, as Slocum, the criminally tiring, town constable.

It is with ample reason that this film made The Entertainment Weekly list of the 100 best comedies ever made. It is an assessment with which I heartily concur. This is a superlative, vintage film that is well worth having in one's personal collection. Bravo!

I give fleshy credit to a bachelor uncle, Harry Johnson, for the fact that I became a movie buff early in my childhood. Throughout the Huge Depression, as he repeatedly explained, he escaped from all the financial hardships by attending the local movie theaters on the South Side of Chicago. One of his all-time favorites is this one. You can thus imagine how thrilled he was when I gave him a VCR one distant Christmas, accompanied by VHSs of this film and It's a Fantastic Life. At Christmas and on his birthday, I gave him VHS versions of other films (e.g. Going My Device, Bells of St. Mary, and The Virginian) . Whenever I returned to visit him, we would head for his common restaurant in Oak Park (Otto's) for a steak dinner, then return to his apartment to inspect a movie. More often than not, this was the one he selected. We would choose succor with lavishly buttered popcorn and a wintry beer and again become enchanted by Bringing Up Baby.

Directed by Howard Hawks and co-starring Cary Grant (David Huxley) and Katherine Hepburn (Susan Vance), this is the archetypical screwball comedy. While golfing, Susan falls in savor with David, a paleontologist. "Baby" is her pet leopard. Any summary of the film's situation cannot initiate to suggest what a luscious experience it is to explore her pursuit of him, complicated at one point by inaccurate identity (pause with me on this) when Baby is erroneous for another leopard which has escaped from the local zoo. Hepburn and Grant are shiny, as are several members of the supporting cast, notably Charlie Ruggles (Major Horace Applegate), Barry Fitzgerald (Mr. Gogarty), and May Robson (Aunt Elizabeth) . So many memorable scenes. Somehow, Hawks and his cast achieve and then withhold zaniness at a high level of sophistication. Can it really be 65 years since this film first appeared? How mighty that it has lost none of its entertainment value since then. None. Today, how great I wish I could sight it again with Uncle Harry. He died years ago but I serene have all those fond memories. He and they live on in films such as this. While seeing it again recently, I returned in time to Oak Park, to Otto's, and then to sharing it in a miniature apartment with Uncle Harry.

A bitter, alcoholic "religious" father has an unnatural hatred for his wayward daughter Anna (Eartha Kitt) and when his greedy family hatches a opinion to marry her off for money to the college graduate son of an aged family friend, the customary man nearly has a seizure. But he's brow-beaten into retrieving her by his scheming son-in-law. The father drove Anna out of the house years ago due to her alleged promiscuity and she's now a waterfront prostitute and the sometime girlfriend of sailor Danny (Sammy Davis Jr.) . She's down-and-out so she reluctantly returns home with her father. But the unexpected happens and she falls in care for with the young college man. Then the stuff hits the fan as the wedding day draws approach as the father has plans of his beget. Based on Philip Yordan's play, this b&w adaptation is juicy and well acted. Kitt is fine as Anna and Davis Jr. matches her as the footloose Danny. The entire cast is in tune with the tone of the script and the underlying theme (incest) surfaces despite the restrictions of the time. Davis sings the title song and even gets to indicate off his dancing skills. The DVD looks suited and is worth a survey for those eager in rare, fresh films. Very adult for the time and very well done all around. Recommended.

This film also has a portion with the actor James Edwards A magnificent actor and was really slated to play some serious roles before Belafonte or Portier but could not handle racism in the Industry and spoke out when he maybe should have kept his opinions private.

Immense Movie.. That deals with a lot of family issues. A must recognize!! For anyone who appreciates that Dim Hollywood era.

This story western condenses "many years into an hourglass". In 1936 when it was made, it archaic available information & speculation, added a astronomical dose of romance, & created a masterpiece. More new research has rendered some of the place devices outmoded, but for the lovers of stout film, who cares? The friendship of Hickok & Cody was proper enough, & the rest is wonderful fun. Cooper & Arthur are sterling, & the supporting cast is terrific. This is a must-see film for anyone.

"The Plainsman" represents the directorial prowess of Cecil B. DeMille at its most improper and un-factual. It sets up parallel plots for no less stellar an entourage than Wild Bill Hickok (Gary Cooper), Buffalo Bill Cody (James Ellison), Calamity Jane (Jean Arthur), George Armstrong Custer and Abraham Lincoln to interact, even though in reality Lincoln was already dull at the time the memoir takes status. Every once in a while DeMille floats dangerously end toward the truth, but honest as easily veers away from it into unabashed spectacle and showmanship. The film is an attempt to buttress Custer's last stand with a heap of fiction that is only loosely based on the lives of people, who were already the product of manufactured stuffs and legends.

TRANSFER: Considering the vintage of the film, this is a moderately bewitching transfer, with often desirable whites and extremely solid blacks. There's a worthy amount of film grain in some scenes and an absence of it at other moments. All in all, the image quality is therefore somewhat inconsistent, but it is never all dreadful or all top-notch - unprejudiced a bit better than middle of the road. Age related artifacts are kept to a minimum and digital anomalies do not distract. The audio is mono but nicely balanced.

EXTRAS: Forget it. It's Universal!

BOTTOM LINE: As pseudo-history painted on celluloid, this western is compelling and fun. Objective buy its characters and sage with a grain of salt - in some cases - a whole box seems more appropriate!

Each one of the "Harry Palmer" films is radically different from the other. "The Ipcress File" (Universal, 1965) was a psychological thriller. "Funeral in Berlin" (Paramount, 1966) was a taut espionage triple nefarious. "The Billion Dollar Brain" (United Artists, 1967) was something else.

Throughout the series, Michael Caine starred as "Harry Palmer" -- the eye with no name in the Len Deighton novels. Each film has its fill flow on Deighton's work. The first two films depicted Harry Palmer as a working class gawk. Very down to earth and gritty. This third outing, directed by Ken Russell, was slicker, somewhat Bond-like in feel -- but then, so was the book on which it's based. Some worship it, some dislike it. The actors are quite valid, production values are high, the snow is for staunch and lots of it. The state is odd -- no doubt about it. Actually quite bizarre at times with some over-the-top situation pieces. A cracking estimable leer legend -- but don't inquire explosions every five minutes.

This is quite a friendly (not titanic), enthralling film and long overdue on DVD. It's been available since September 2004 on Space 2 disc and now at long last on Area 1 on October 4, 2005, in its recent aspect ratio and Dolby stereo. Apparently a short segment with Beatles music had to be deleted for copyright purposes. Perhaps the holding company held out for to worthy money?

After a lapse of over 25 years, the next Harry Palmer films with Michael Caine would be "Bullet to Beijing" and "Midnight in St Petersberg".
Over the top can be a obvious thing. For decades Bond movies have made their reputation on it. However, this third entry in the Harry Palmer series goes a long design to undoing the helpful will built up over the first two instalments (The Ipcress File and Funeral in Berlin) in its 60's excess.
Its predecessors made a virtue not of reality, but creating a believable every day Cockney with fresh character traits, unwillingly dragged through the existence of spying, and all the bureaucracy inherent in it. The movie and state were never fully grounded in reality, but were nonetheless believable.
Here, Ken Russell opts to throw away the edgy impressionistic camera angles developed by Sidney Furie and Guy Hamilton, instead making a pseudo Bond movie. Which is a proper pity - who needs another Bond-lite character? The location builds slowly at first with satisfyingly snowy locations and skullduggery and spying.. but soon becomes lost in an over-the-top ending piquant a megalomaniac American oil billionaire using a not-so-super-now-computer to try and invade Latvia.
There is never a trusty sense of worry to humanity, and too many residence threads are left unexplained for this to be an entirely successful affair.
And yet, all of this is tempered by Michael Caine's effortless charisma in the role. If the scriptwriters fail to have the details in the screenplay that made the character so tantalizing, Caine overcomes this with his hide presence. Karl Malden plays well in the rather two dimensional `greedy guy' role, and Ed Begley plays `evil megalomaniac' well within the confines of the material. Guy Coleman makes a welcome return as Colonel Ross but alas is woefully underused. The femme fatale is played by Francoise Dorleac, who tragically died at a young age later the same year in a car accident.
Honeywell computers are given a tall credit as having supplied all the computing rooms and material which earn such a large component of the position. It's fantastically quaint now to seek immense rooms of computers racked up to do mundane tasks, programming supplied by stacks of cards. One unintentionally hilarious scene has Karl Malden `editing' the data by taking some of the programming cards out and shredding them! I can't imagine what a generation brought up on iPods and grand home computers must gain of it.
In summary, what makes the movie at best mediocre - the bland script, the over the top campness, will endear it as a classic to others. The action scenes are handled well, the locations in Finland suitably spectacular, and the actors are more than up to the task. However this reviewer was left frosty by more than fair the scenes of snow and ice.

The stupid are furious as heck and aren't going to select it anymore! When we last caught up with George Romero's "Lifeless" films, "Day of the Tiring," focused on the military trying to shriek the zombies for combat and experimenting on them. Romero takes the next step introduced into a world divided by the slow and the living each sharing state reluctantly with the other. That is until a gas set attendant zombie shows an inkling of intelligence and decides to go after the living in a sealed off skyscaper while those less fortunate live on the streets of the sealed off metropolis. Race by Kaufman (Dennis Hopper in perfect looney mode), the city is supplied by "employees" who can't live in the heavenly people's skyscraper. These scavengers led by Riley (Simon Baker) and Cholo (John Leguizamo) pillage the landscape around them for considerable items for the wealthy. Riley has a conscience decides he will no longer lead the crew of his "tank" Tiresome Reconkening and work for "the man" anymore. Cholo, on the other hand, keeps doing Kaufman's dirty work in hopes that he'll be able to occupy his arrangement into the wealthy paradise.

As usual Romero has lots of gore but, more importantly, there's a sly political and satricial message at the heart of the movie. Romero who has been an independent filmmaker his whole life probably identifies with Riley and thinks of the film studios as Kaufman and his denizens. It's a worthy broader metaphor though as it can be feeble to glance at the disappearing middle class and the disintegration of the class system in America. It's a fun trip with some of Romero's most accomplished filmmaking. Working with a budget of around $20 million Romero manages to do the same kind of work as was seen in the remake of his "Dawn of the Dreary" last year. Interestingly, the more films Romero makes in his "Listless" series (and this probably going to be the last or at least next to last because of his age), the more milage he gets out of the inspiration for the entire saga--Richard Matheson's new "I Am Record" which was turned into the coarse budget dread movie "The Last Man on Earth" with Vincent Sign (and the campy "The Omega Man" with Charleton Heston) .

Outstanding effects are nicely off position with strong performances by the cast including Asia Argento (daughter of Romero friend and Italian fear film director Dario Argento) as a musty hooker named Tedious who is almost fed to the "stenches" (as the city inhabitants refer to the rotting zombies) in a bizarre scene that satrizies "Wrathful Max Beyond Thunderdome". Romero hasn't lost his touch and although this doesn't have quite the revolutionary punch of "Dawn of the Wearisome" or "Night of the Living Tiresome" it's an improvement on "Day of the Boring" as well as most of the fear films out there.

The DVD has a very nice transfer and with the exception of an occasional bit of digital shimmer, the film looks as vibrant and alive as the lustrous red gushing blood. This is grand more an action adventure movie than the previous films in the fright series and provides a nice bookend to the remake of "Dawn of the Boring" (even if it isn't related) . Sound is gorgeous entertaining with a nice 5.1 and DTS mix that will have you looking over your shoulders for the undead.

Extras include a bewitching commentary by "Listless" director Romero, producer Grunwald and editor Michael Doherty. There's also a number of featurettes on the making of the film but my personal accepted is "When Shawn Met George" about when Simon Pegg and Edgar White (star & writer and director * writer respectively) of the comedy/horror film "Shawn of the Unimaginative" met Romero and appeared as extras in "Land of the Monotonous". We bag to glimpse how they're made into the undead and the first meeting between the three of them. "Undead Again" provides a spy into the making of the film. "Green Camouflage to Finished Camouflage" gives us before and after comparisons between the raw footage and the finished footage with optical effects. "Storyboards and Final Scenes" looks at the storyboards inserted as PIP with the finished product. "Roar Tests" opens with a very humorous outtake featuring dancing zombies from the CGI footage for the film. "Scenes of Carnage" is exquisite self explanatory. "Bits and Pieces" are scenes that were carve. Although none of the featurettes are quite as exhaustive as those provided as extras for the three disc space of the unique "Dawn of the Dull". There's also some other extras including a behind-the-scenes "A Day with the Living Tiresome".

Could "Tedious" have been more? Obvious. There were some missed opportunities here regarding the life in the tower but then that would have been a completely different movie. Romero's done a terrific job given the limitations of time and budget. Deftly balancing satire, anxiety and humanism, Romero makes one of his best films in years. I'm hoping this does well at the box office so that Romero can obtain financing to continue to ask the post-stench world a bit more. Oh and it's a Romero rarity with an ending that's actually more upbeat than I expected.
We should have known that if George A. Romero was going to go attend to the well of the living slow another time he was going to arrive up with something different. What "George A. Romero's Land of the Slow" (the director's name goes up top so you know this is not merely another remake of one of his zombie films, like last year's "Dawn of the Expressionless") offers is two variations on the familiar theme. The first is in this dauntless modern world humanity has found a map of perpetuating the mature divide between the "haves" and "haves not," even when there are all those zombies out there suggest it should now be "us" versus "them." Kaufman (Dennis Hopper) has state up Fiddler's Green, a luxury high rise on an island between a couple of rivers (contemplate the status of Three River Stadium in Romero's used stomping ground of Pittsburgh even though the movie is shot in Toronto) . There the "haves" live while the rest of the island has the "have nots," some of whom are hired as mercenaries to go out into the world and bring wait on "necessities." Apparently money quiet matters in the "Land of the Plain," or perhaps people are merely trying to fill on to the faded map of life, because the dreadful are not listening to those advocating going and taking away from the rich.

Consequently, humanity has found a plot to survive. You can compare the more active arrive of "Land of the Plain" with the mall rats of "Dawn of the Expressionless," who found a passive means of existence. Kaufman has built Expressionless Reckoning, a colossal armored vehicle that leads foraging parties out into the world. These parties are led by Riley (Simon Baker), whose well-known goal is getting everybody support alive, which does not always happen. That is because he works with Cholo (John Leguizamo), who has a different thought of necessities, one attuned to the glowing tastes of Kaufman. Both men possess they are on their last mission at the launch of this 2005 film, Riley because he will have now earned enough to pay for a car to win out of town and Cholo because he believes he has now earned the chance to fade on up to Fiddler's Green. Both are nefarious and that sets up the conflict to near.

This is where the second variation comes into play. Kaufman not only created a high rise where the "haves" are protected from that "have nots," some of whom actually serve the "haves" have even more, but the entire island is zombie proof. This forces Romero to change the zombie piece of the equation, and so we are introduced to Stout Daddy (Eugene Clark), who runs a gas spot and has a moment akin to when the ape looks at the thigh bone in "2001: A Spot Odyssey." Fair to assist us along the converse over at the commence of the film warn us that if the zombies ever manufacture anything approaching rudimentary thinking skills that would be a terrible thing, a very dreadful thing indeed. So, of course, that is what happens. After all, if you can have unpleasant humans, then you can have well-behaved zombies (Joss Whedon has convinced me being dreary does not get a character inherently unpleasant) .

Having a zombie to root for is quite a different experience, but Romero also delivers on the guts and gore when the zombies go into their patented feeding frenzy. The record can offer all the sly social satire it wants, we behold these movies to be disgusted by the bloody scenes of cannibalism. The people Romero hires to do makeup and special effects are clearly on the cutting edge when it comes to this type of work. Even when you gawk the DVD special features and you discover what they are doing in luminous light most of it will serene hurry you out, so the scenes in the film shot at night or in the shadows with the liberal application of blood and other things it is even worse (which is a trustworthy thing in a zombie movie) .

The bottom line is that Romero delivers fair what his fans want with this movie so that there is not a plight with failing to meet expectations. No, "Land of the Boring" is not the best of the bunch, but for my money nothing will surpass the new "Night of the Living Tiresome." The indispensable thing is that here we are four films into the series, limiting ourselves to impartial the Romero helmed ones, and the series is certainly going a lot strong than the other comparable dread series, all of which have been abandoned by their creators (which is either a cause or attain) . Final Note: Survey for Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright of "Shaun of the Tedious" fame as the photo booth zombies in one of the classic cameos of the early 21st century.

When this production of 'Carmen' was mounted at the Vienna Residence Opera in 1978 it caused quite a wander. Mostly that was because Carlos Kleiber rarely conducted opera and when he did it was always an occasion. And Zeffirelli, controversial but incandescent as an opera conductor, always created a crawl with any novel production of his. This film was also directed by Zeffirelli for Austrian television and as far as I know it has not been available in general circulation since its initial airing. It is a fitting tribute to Kleiber whose death this last summer was a blow for the classical music world. He was surely one of the tall conductors of new times.

Plácido Domingo is in his prime here as Don José. In Act II 'La fleur que tu m'avais jetée' ('The Flower Song') is thrilling, even though he doesn't quite manage the pianissimo ending Bizet intended. There is a five-minute-plus ovation at its accomplish, and it is well-deserved. It is absorbing that Zeffirelli left the entire ovation in his edited film because there are many other places in the performance where the applause has been edited out. One wonders if he wasn't playing favorites with his cast. Elena Obraztsova gets silence after several of her arias, but Isobel Buchanan gets a mountainous ovation after her Act III 'Je dis que rien ne m'epouvante,' again deservedly so. It is good that Obraztsova is not an ideal Carmen, at least in the early going when she is supposed to be the alluring, devil-may-care gypsy woman. Later, though, in the Card Scene where she repeatedly turns up cards that predict 'La mort!' ('Death!) she is riveting. Our Escamillo is, to my mind, rather a cipher. Yuri Mazurok has a solid baritone, but his torero does not have the famous vocal or physical high-tail, and his French is almost unintelligible. The minor characters are well-taken. I was particularly impressed both vocally and histrionically with the Frasquita (Cheryl Kanfoush) and Mercédès (Axelle Gall), singers not previously known to me.

The undoubted star of this production is Carlos Kleiber. From the downbeat of the Prélude to the very ruin of the opera, his musical direction is as bright as any I've ever heard in this thrice-familiar opera. Zeffirelli knew this, too. His camera focuses on Kleiber repeatedly throughout the production, sometimes even interrupting action onstage, but generally only when the orchestra is playing alone. I had never seen Kleiber conduct, so I was very overjoyed to be able to view this. (I was amused to gaze him give the opening tempo of those lickety-split sixteenths at the beginning of the fourth act by mouthing to orchestra and chorus 'Puh puh Puh puh Puh puh' before giving the downbeat.) I can imagine others, less fervent in the conductor, might feel that Zeffirelli's cutting away to display Kleiber is a distraction. The members of the Vienna Philharmonic play like gods. Their rhythmic precision is jaw-droppingly helpful. I'd particularly single out the concertmaster and the critical flute for praise.

This is one of those over-the-top Zeffirelli productions. There are gigantic numbers of people onstage remarkable of the time and Zeffirelli's vaunted ability to protest crowds, giving each member some individual bits to gain, is on demonstrate here. The camerawork is such that at times one almost believes one is watching an opened-out movie of an opera, not one confined to a stage. I did believe all the donkeys and horses in Act III were a bit great, but the crowd outside the bullring arena in Act IV (and featuring enchanting flamenco dancers) was a mammoth pleasure to glimpse.

The edition ragged here appears to be the one by Fritz Oeser, with spoken dialog and sans the Guiraud recitatives. That was something modern in the 1970s and must have been gripping for seasoned operaphiles. I well remember a 1973 production at the Met conducted by Bernstein and starring Marilyn Horne that broke with precedent by using this recent edition. I don't know if that one has made it to video.

Is this the definitive 'Carmen.' Well, first of course one would have to ask if there could ever be such a thing. Is it a obliging 'Carmen'? You bet it is! I do wish the Carmen had perhaps been a bit more alluring, but one cannot argue with that substantial organ-toned mezzo of Obraztsova. And it's hard to imagine a better Don José. Isobel Buchanan's Micaëla is a exiguous bit generic (as perhaps the portion itself is), but heavenly and involving. Mazurok has his admirers, but I'm not particularly one of them. Level-headed, this DVD rates five stars; it definitely is an occasion and an sharp one. Interestingly there is another Zeffirelli production from Verona on DVD that I like almost as worthy as this one, even though the cast is a whole lot less well-known, but its orchestra is nowhere come as capable.

Visually this is elegant and in crisp videography. Sound is definite and in tiring, vanilla stereo, no options. Subtitles in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish.

Recommended with minor reservations.

Having recently reviewed the von Karajan film of Carmen, I was compelled to rewatch this production, which came out about the same time, in order to compare two very different versions of Bizet's masterwork, one of the greatest operas of all time. Having explored them both, it's hard for me to resolve a common. This one has less of a "name" cast than the von Karajan, but that shouldn't be a deterrent, the cast here, though less well known, is scarcely less incredible, and it features Placido Domingo, arguably the best Don Jose of fresh times. Therefore, an educated decision is probably going to advance down to a couple of factors. One, the von Karajan version is a film, this is a live performance of a Zefferelli production, so it depends on the viewer's preference. Two, the conductors have different styles: do you favor the languourous wobble of von Karajan, or the quickly, headlong assault of Carlos Kleiber? Of course, if you are like me, you appreciate various approaches to the same work of art, and will want to occupy them both!

The main but definitely not only selling point of this DVD is Domingo's Don Jose. We all know the tenor is a glowing singer, even today, but when this was done in the behind '70's he was in his prime, both physically and vocally. His Flower Aria is a literal showstopper. The audience must have been informed that the performance was being taped and instructed to set aside most of their applause for the curtain calls, because the crowd stays fairly sedate throughout most of the opera; Domingo's aria, however, inspires a nearly three small ovation, and justifiably so,it is poignant, dramatic, heartbreaking, incomparable. I'm contented the editors didn't nick the applause, seeing it in its entirety adds to the live feel of this DVD. But that isn't Domingo's only moment in the sun, he excels at every level, deteriorating into obsession and madness; by the ruin of act three, he is positively monstrous, telling Carmen that they are destined(some might say doomed) to meet again.

As Carmen, Elena Obraztsova is vocally suitable, she has the sort of deep, throaty, occasionally masculine state vital to effect a convincing gypsy seductress. Her acting is less consistent, she can't seem to choose whether to play Carmen as an insouciant flirt or a strong-willed woman of passion - she is far more effective as the latter. I'm not saying that the two qualities are mutually unfamiliar, but in her performance they seem to belong to two different characters. Not that her performance isn't highly watchable throughout - she has a nice laugh, even when she's trying to be cruel, and her huge eyes are beautifully evocative, even haunting, in the manner of an old-time movie femme fatale(Dietrich in The Blue Angel, Crawford in Rain, Calamai in Ossessione) . But when she is at her best, which means at her most passionate, she is truly unforgettable.

Isobel Buchanan is a perfect Micaela, young, aesthetic, ingenuous, corpulent of pathos, with a sweetly piquant pronounce respectable of achieving mountainous power during her mountainous aria. Yuri Mazurok isn't the most strong-voiced Escamillo you will ever hear, his baritone sounds a minute rough at times, but overall he has a gracious sound and is convincing as a cocky matador.

Kleiber's conducting is lightning quickly, really the only time it takes a breather is during the prolonged audience ovation for Domingo's aria. This speedily stride galvanizes the music while emphasizing that the valuable motivation slack the myth of Carmen is passion with a capital P. Zeffirelli's production has his usual panache, with ample crowd scenes, intelligent costumes, authentic-looking locales. My only complaint is with his TV direction, which too often bypasses wide shots in favor of medium shots and closeups - in my concept, those wide shots, especially during crowd scenes, really give the viewer the feel of being there in the audience. Also, his choice of camera emphasis is occasionally ill-conceived, such as at the destroy of the Toreador Song, where Carmen sings "L'amour" to Escamillo and she isn't even in the frame. This is an famous moment, and it has more of an impact if we actually study Carmen saying(singing) the words.

Two nearly perfect productions of Carmen on DVD. Bizet didn't live long enough to survey or be pleased the success of his masterpiece, but the rest of us can bask in what the composer was unfortunately denied.

It is an invaluable commentary that reveals the series origins, WHY it was produced, HOW the series was produced, etc. It provides a well-known insight into the cartoon industry, both in the US and Japan.

3. Character Sketches for all the characters of the Macross Saga. Attractive frigid stuff!!

4. Clips of Robotech in foreign languages. This is an awesome and icy feature. Robotech was released worldwide and here is a exiguous sampling of how other countries and cultures caught all the action. For our viewing pleasure we can behold the well-known clip of Rick and Minmei trapped in the SD-F1 in the following languages: Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian!!!

Awesome: Robotech on DVD, �nuff said!!!

Must Listen: Carl Macek�s commentary on the E1 disc. It�s a titillating survey slow the scenes.

Pretty Cool: Robotech in foreign languages (found on the E1 disc) . Hilarious!!!

Bad: Nothing at all!!!

If you�ve never seen Robotech, simply set aside YOU MUST. It is the series that forever state the standard for Japanese anime. If you did grow up with Robotech, give these a gawk again. They�re astronomical for a scuttle down memory lane. Watching it again now, I can honestly say that it�s better than I remember. Give this (and all other novel and future releases) a gape. You won�t be disappointed.

If you are planning on purchasing these, by all means buy up the Boxed Position. It�s the only diagram you�ll win the Elements of Robotechnology Disc. Alone, the individual volumes DO NOT near with DVD extras... it�s tranquil a big bargain for all the action and extras. Catch the Boxed Space.

One thing I can't stand, is people who review a product based upon previous viewings, not upon the quality of the product itself. I picked up a copy of this boxed location yesterday, and have taken a gawk at most of it. If your a fan of the expose, or a fan of Japanese anime generally, you know what you're going to rep with Robotech. This is a series that attempts to combine dramatic storytelling with the best elements of science fiction. Based upon the success and popularity of the exhibit, it largely succeeds. The characters have a grand range of emotions and react to the trials and tribulations that they all experience. Treasure,loss, and sacrifice are all motivations for the characters in this series. Macross, the first series, focuses upon young people who face adversity of first contact with an alien urge that is both hostile and militarily valid. Against this backdrop is a worship narrative. The hero, Rick Hunter, struggles to catch his position, both as a warrior/military leader while also navigating the hazards of good adore. I don't deem I need to say too remarkable more in the plot of the precise series. The art is pleasing, having dwelling the standards for anime in the 1980s. The pronounce actors are qualified. You don't even behold that the language is dubbed. This yarn series situation the standard for anime in the USA and it continues to survive the test of time.

The DVD production is another narrative. The master print does not appear to have been cleaned up in any draw. Compared with other DVDs, the print appears quite grainy. It's a tv cartoon from the 1980s and this is exactly what it looks like. Impartial don't go in expecting this to be a polished special edition. The extras are not particularly impressive. The art collection is largely duplicative of material that has appeared in printed works. The sound track is rather tinny, and lacks the fullness of most original productions. This is probably because the novel production was designed for mono television via the airwaves, but compared to most fresh DVDs it lacks the fullness that you would approach to interrogate. THe two hour movie included on the extra disk is nothing more than a shorter version of the first several episodes. The audio commentary by Carl Macek (the producer) was fascinating. It provides a nice historical perspective of the series and insights into the production. However, unlike movie commentaries, it really doesn't track the sequence of scenes on the cover. You can listen to the commentary without watching any of what is taking state on the conceal. I must say that my copy of the extras disk has a glitch. One of the tracks continually jams my DVD player. I have not had this pickle with any other DVDs. I'll probably sight to exchange my site for another copy. I don't know whether this is merely a quandary with my state or whether it may be representative of larger manufacturing effort. I simply point this out because anyone who buys this product should probably check theirs out as soon as possible. Despite these complaints, this is composed the best production of the Robotech series to date. While the quality is comparable to the earlier video tape releases, this is mild the nicest production of the Robotech series for home release, and it clear beats my grainy video tapes.

( This isn't Keith Carlson, it's his kid.) These are my common episodes, in which I call "The Makoto Arc" This features Makoto Sawatari, a girl who lost her memory. I won't spoil the ending. But, I will order you that this anime has Fantastic art in it. Makoto is my approved character in Kanon. So when her arc ended, I cried and cried. These are incredible episodes. I whine, you will treasure it..

This volume concludes the "Makoto Arc" and begins a unique one, "Mai Arc". The Makoto Arc ends in a dramatic fashion where Makoto starts regaining aid her memories which then leads her to completely lose human traits. Afterwards the attention is then focused towards Mai. Now not grand is known about Mai, as the only thing we know so far is she fights against spirits that dwell in the school unhurried at night. Another thing we know is Mai does not like to talk a lot and she has gotten herself a reputation within the school and it's not a superior one since she tends to be accused of destroying school property. In order to improve her image, Yuichi decides to have Mai go to the school dance and he succeeds in convincing her to go. All is well until something happens at the dance and that concludes this volume.

I have to say after watching 3 volumes of Kanon so far so superb. Though this volume focused more on Mai and Makoto, other "main characters" did gather some spotlight and that is considerable for the later arcs. I particularly enjoyed the scene between Nayuki and Ayu when they met for the first time, even though Ayu has been eating at Akiko's region for some time. Also, Yuichi begins to learn a bit more about Shiori and fair noteworthy you can guess that will be the next arc after Mai.

I highly recommend this volume for those who have been watching Kanon thus far. If you have not been watching any Kanon, please take and witness volumes 1 and 2 before viewing this volume as it will not get considerable sense.

P.S. I would have done this review early if I had gotten volume 2 with box earlier than later. Also, the ending credit claims that volume 4 should be out around April, but according to some reports it looks to be sometime around May. Remember this is not confirmed news.

Realism, drama and romance. Those are some of the qualities normally required for me to respect and give a legend a high rating. Paradise Kiss has a mix of all three.

In a nutshell, Paradise Kiss is a chronicle of growth. Over the course of 12 episodes, a high school girl, Yukari, transforms from a normal girl feeling pressured into studying only to heed her parent; transforming into an independent woman who follows her fill heart. An encounter with George, an overconfident and elegant fashion designer and head of a miniature group called Paradise Kiss from a fashion produce school, leads her down the path of modeling and care for.

I expected fashion to be the main focus of the series after reading a description of the tale, but the fashion stuff barely featured outside of costume changes and a few key spot points. It was always in the background, never being more famous than the characters. So, if you are afraid, fright not: characterization was clearly the priority of the author, and I am happy that was the case since fashion and me do not go together so well. Nearly all of the sage focused on the love/hate relationship of George and Yukari.

Throughout the epic, George is blunt to the point of being insulting, and he has no dilemma telling Yukari things such as how he hates women who blame others for their problems (after she blamed her parent for pushing her), or informing her that she was an idiot for putting sleeping with him above her dream. While he was usually true and said what he did out of caring for her, his needlessly confrontational attitude made him a hard guy to understand at times.

Despite my problems with George's 'bad boy' personality, I do mediate their relationship, including how the two kill up, was handled in a very realistic and conventional manner. Never did I feel I was looking in on the actions of spurious individuals; I could imagine the same events playing out in precise life. Their relationship came across so realistically that watching them made me a small watery eyed a few times. After watching numerous anime stories gripping dumb, generic leads getting it on with soulless female characters, watching Paradise Kiss was a breath of current air.

It was also nice seeing an anime relationship not require the male to dawdle after the female. It was far more equal in Paradise Kiss, with Yukari doing most of the chasing because of George's attitude. She even had to basically beg him to sleep with her after he picked up on her determined hints but failed to buy the easy openings she gave him, instead opting to do her do the work. I give major plus points for the yarn very rarely coming across as erroneous.

I only have a few negative comments about the story/characters. The first is that the relationship of George and Yukari seemed to fade too speedy at first, with George getting jealous after seeing Yukari out with another man, going on to ignore her... even though he had only known her for a few days. The other negative point is that the supporting cast did not procure enough time. For example, I wanted to contemplate more than Arashi and Miwako (members of Paradise Kiss) fight and have sex every now and then. Neither of the problems were severe enough to end the series for me, and I doubt most others would be fearful by what bugged me.

In terms of the video and audio aspects, the series is very impressive. The art looks incredible, it being both realistic and stylish, the eyes in particular looking elegant, and the animation is up to the usual Madhouse standard. The soundtrack is a solid one, too, including an edifying opening and a few memorable pieces. As for the content acting, the English dub is pleasant, with all of the cast sounding natural.

All in all, Paradise Kiss is something either gender can devour. Going into it, I was a itsy-bitsy concerned, worrying that I would not be able to regain a lot of enjoyment out of it because of my gender, but I was able to secure into it suitable from the get-go. If you are tired of all the comic, over the top anime in existence, I suggest you give this a try. If in doubt, do not avoid one the best anime out there unbiased because you are not female.
